So the program for the next 2 weeks goes as follows. I'll be taking the sectionals on the Thursday with band.. so any suggestions for what y'all want to do? If no opinions then we'll do tribal beat sound system so go look at your parts. I wanna protest to my sabre dance parts. I wanna play the vibes. not the drumset. Charlotte can play the drumset yeah. XD haha. Valentia photocopy the mallets score ASAP yeah.
I also suggested that Ms Ng takes the sec1s separately yeah cuz it's way too slow for y'all unless the sec2s u guys wanna relearn the basics. Joy please go learn the scales or i'll stick you with the sec1s... I'm expecting grade 8 standard by the end of sec3 yeah. so make sure you practice hard. really hard. really really really hard. there's almost no end to the number of "really"s i have to use to emphasize how hard you have to practice.. like my standard yeah. Please get there. you have to.. Like it's COMPULSORY. Train stamina and speed and precision. yeah. mainly those things. You got any questions or you want special attention can come to me ya. Well I'm being asked to make comments about our new tutor, so here it is.
Thoughts: Since I attend the most about a third of sectional time a year, I can't really say I know here that well. But I think she is good. She makes random jokes and are really nice to us :D

Well juniors are coming in on Tuesday so I'm a tad nervous. One thing must remember though, must remember to have "official introduction". Because I suddenly had a strange desire to them all lined up together XD Oh and give them blog address etc. So we can bond online. I find bonding online is much easier than in real life don't you find, Joy :D It's much easier to make them open their mouths.
As for your beloved box Lorraine, I think we might have thrown it out during the band camp while we were sterilising the room. Well it was pratically useless anyway! I think there are a pair of them on the perc table. If there are not enough, well, that will be for you to solve Lorraine.

Hello all!
Just wanna know what y'all think about our new instructor. I know i've asked before, but i can't really rmb the answer. And since this is like her 3rd time here, maybe your opinions and views have changed. If you have any preferences, just tell me and i'll see if there's anything i can do to encourage a better learning system.
We have 3 new juniors. So train them. If we seniors aren't around, it falls in the hands of you to teach them whatever u know.. but not the wrong things. Bonding is highly encouraged. XD
Don't forget to practice the flam beats thing... it's in the practice book. If you don't know what I'm referring to, ask around.. somebody has to know.
Continue practicing your sabre dance parts cuz she still wants to hear it. And the tribal beats thing. I kinda like that one ya.. XD
We need to clear up that wall at the table. It's getting crowded. I'd like to inquire what happened to the boxes of sticks.. We need to pack... the sec1s are coming in for practice on tuesday so they'll need a pair of thick sticks each. Those who have at home and don't mind lending/donating please bring to school. Ok this is Valentia's not-so-concise summary.
3pm-330pm: Warm Up techniques, recap from last week's sectionals 330pm-430pm: Basic Techniques, flams, flam taps, double stroke rolls [not so productive cause sec ones keep coming now and then to audition] 430pm-5pm: Sight-read the Tribal Beat Sound System. Reminder for all to practice the rhythm thing using the sticking given. Refer to Lorraine's score for stickings.
Well since my memory for such things are ... Limited.. Kindly those people who have better memory than me for such things to update the list above yeah. Then I can finalise and erm. Write it somewhere. Then put it on the perc table or something yeah.
I'll tag all the posts with this kind of summary under "sectionals" so you guys can access it more easily yeah. That's so sensible of me.

See I'm nice I bothered to actually go and look for this.
There. That's how Sabre Dance's supposed to sound like. But I find this one the balance like the volume is kinda weird. Like the cymbals are loud. Sometimes covering the mallets for some reason. Wheee. But I kinda like the piece. It's fun and easy :D

So yeah everyone please help to make Valentia's job as a librarian easier. DO NOT MESS UP SCORES ON THE TABLE. Tidyng up the messy scores is a physically and mentally draining challenge. So please help Valentia by doing your part. If you see anyone messing up scores, report them to our SL :D CATCH THE CULPRIT. If you like want to take aone of your parts in the stack, note where it was originally, and when you finish practising DO NOT leave them lying around for Valentia/me to pick it up and put it back for you, like the librarians in the national libraries.
PERC ENSEMBLE. Well that's quite a topic. Cause so far I think we haven't got 1 suitable perc ensemble yet. :.... And concert is in like May. I think Dichomotry is a nice piece actually...if we prac our parts faithfully till we can play at the actual tempo...I think its gonna sound great and pro...I've got a feeling...
As for the timpanis, Janabel has pointed out for a million billion trillion zillion gazillion times that its OUT OF TUNE. So like me if you happen, under authorised permission to go into the band room and find it nice and quiet, e.g holiday prac and you are the first to come back for lunch, TUNE THE TIMPS. I tuned 2 of them today. The middle 2. So someone tune the others.

Japan Trip
Hey Perc Dudes....
Here's the info abt the Japan Trip for those who weren't present on that day.
Cost: $2500 When: 1st week/2nd week of June Duration: 7 days 5 nights Luggage allowance: 15kg This is because instruments are not given extra weight so we have to sacrifice. No bringing of gold bars and other heavy items like... homework! =)
So far everybody is going except Xinyi. Valentia please confirm with your parents. Need the answer by Tuesday. Cannot wait for your results to decide.

New Rules Old Rules
Valentia you seem to have put up a lot of new rules.. Why'd u like rules so much? First the blog rules and now the score rules.. Unfortunately for you, I'm in charge around here... (I sound like a sheriff from some cowboy movie)and i don't like the new rules you have made... Besides, you should have foreseen this anyways.. nobody liked your blog rules either.. too restricting.
It's unethical to take money from the section and put it into your "personal food fund". As your "personal food fund" contributes only to the well being of your overly nutritious diet, it makes entirely no sense to illicitly obtain money from the section.
Furthermore, knowing fully well that majority of the pieces we play are 3+pages long, that makes a total of $3 gained with half of the proceedings going to you and ONLY you. Now, if you had taken a moment to consider about the repercussions, other than the illegal extension of your monetary boundaries, you would have realised some of us would be in need of financial assistance to support your unlawful actions.
Therefore, I'm overriding and negating your Law of the Percussion Score Number 1.
Now regarding your second "law", I'm sure all of us do not deliberately misplace the scores, but it is unnecessary for you to keep imposing fines on every single piece of paper found in an unexpected place. You realise there are over a 100 pieces of paper on the table top and probably another 50 more in the files. You'd have to install a camera in the band room if you want to monitor our movements.
When making your rules, please think of how you're going to reinforce these rules. A camera is totally out of the question. As well as the fines.
Thus, your Law of the Percussion Score Number 2 is scratched.
If you're unable to manage your tasks as a librarian ask for help or inform me of your inability then I'll transfer the post if you request for a change of job.
So many rules are unnecessary if all you had to do was ask nicely. You haven't once briefed us about the handling of scores, thus you can't impose fines since we didn't have a first warning... _________________________________ Now, addressing the general public.
Please return all scores neatly to wherever they belong and notify me or Valentia if you do take them home.
Return of all pieces should be done in complete sets. We don't want pg 1 of this today and the other 2 pages next week. No manhandling of scores as well.
And don't forget to get a small notebook ready for Ms. Ng on her arrival this Thursday.. Not so small that only 5 words can fit onto a page. Roughly about, well.... A5 size.
I've done up to L i think.. for the percensems. That's already the second box.
Treasury job has been passed to Janabel since she loves dealing with money. Any monetary claims you have will be directed to her, so don't complain to me. As of now, Valentia owes Perc Fund $5 as wells as Janabel. No claiming of money until you pay the Perc Fund. Now that's a rule.
Percussion Food Fund is scratched too. If you want to bring food, do it at your own expense. Janabel always gives out our food to Guanteng an other greedy ghosts like Qianwen.. bleh.. Previous claims for the food is allowed although strongly advised against. It shows how stingy you are, unwilling to share a packet of gummies with the section.

Anyone who took any score from the percussion table OR auxiliary table OR the files would have to return the score back herself, or a fine will be imposed. 50 cents per page of score unreturned.

Hello hello hello!!!! This is the 90th post.
Today the SEC 2s were outside band room practicing during recess/lunch. They deserve to be commended. Ok.. you may now commence patting yourselves on the back XD blahaha..
Just as a reminder, come back during LUNCH not recess.. cuz the band room will be open during lunch not recess. So please remember... On Mondays, practice during recess/lunch is OPTIONAL. Don't say i didn't tell you cuz i just did. =)
So tmr for the lunch prac we'll be trying out the new perc ensems. As usual, Janabel the Hungry wishes to have lunch.. so i think she'll probably abandon us halfway.. SO......... all ye juniors pls eat during recess and don't starve yourselves.. or if you're not used to eating during recess, you can buy food during recess and save it for lunch. Wheeee. The visit to Esplanade library today gained us... 3 perc ensems to try!! There's this one that I really wanna try called Dichotomy by Anthony J Cirone. I've been trying to find the recording but I'm unsuccessful. So you people should try digging for the recording too! Cause it looks cool. Then there's this one called Tropicussion I think. By Thomas A Brown, the same dude who composed Brazilian Street Dance. And there's another one.. But I can't remember the name since Lorraine took it x)
SO hurrah we might not need to dig something from our stinky library after all!

And I'm gonna find perc ensems later on today (since i'm posting at 12 plus).. haha... hope me and valentia can find something nice withing an hour. Or else we'll have to dig some rotting stuff from our perc library... bleh.
Anyways... I was just randomly researching about the different grips.. There are 3 types of grip... French, German and American.. The German one is the the matched grip. The French one is the timpani style with thumbs up and near parallel sticking.. And the American one is like in between. The palms are like facing diagonally up. I like the American grip. XD. it's the most comfortable... Honestly, I can't stand the matched grip.. heheh.
So y'all can go research about it.. XD and if anybody learns how to do a single handed roll tell me ASAP. I wanna learn.. =)
